Natalya Kireeva, who lives in Helsinki, described main principles, which are basic for education system in Finalnd. Maintenance of this principles played a big role in promotion of finnish education system, which nowadays could be regarded as one of the best in the world.
Finland has its own way at the sphere of school education, which visibly differs from tendencies, which are accepted in other countries, including USA and Western Europe. Author of the article shows number of characteristics of school education in Finland.
One of the main principles is equality - equality between schools, all subjects in school; equality between student, parentas and teachers. All schools has absolutely same possibilities, equipment and proportional financing. Each student is a special one, comparison between students is prohibited. So, the next principle is individuality. Teachers must take into account individual characteristics of every student. Also, at schools is widely distributed "supporting" teaching for "weak" students and correctional teaching. Another important point is that school education in Finland is free. Not just studying at school is free of charge, but also textbooks, excursions, transportation and out-of-school activities. During the study, principle of practicality is very important. At school, teachers give students only such knowledge, which could be useful in their after-school life. Principle of trust is very important for all school members. First of all, it is trust to teachers: all education programs are not obligatory, examination of teachers isn't provided. Students are learning with the principles of voluntariness and independence. Every student has a right to choose his or her future, including choosing of the profession. Finnish people are confident, that the main school goal is to teach a child, how to be successful in after-school life.
Also, article includes information about school program in different grades and about the system of evaluation. Writer outlines, that educational system in Finland is very dynamic and tries to adapt to changes which take place in society. And students of Finnish schools not only show good results in different subjects, but also have a chance to combine their study with different out-of-class activities.
