25 December will mark the first night of the production Dorogaya Elena Sergeyevna (Dear Elena Sergeyevna) at the Taganka Theatre (small stage). The Educational Trust Foundation helped SSSR Productions to stage the play based on a piece of the same title by Liudmila Razumovskaya.
When the film produced by director Eldar Ryazanov based on the same play hit the screens in the USSR in 1988, it produced a great public stir. Among Ryazanov's other popular movies, Dorogaya Elena Sergeyevna stood out as his first film dedicated to the problems of young people, as well as his first film in the genre of social psychological drama.
Over the decades that passed since then, moral dilemmas addressed by the playwright have not become any less poignant – rather, they are even more relevant now. The new stage production will certainly be of interest to young people making their first independent steps in life, and facing a difficult moral choice.
The stage play is produced by Aleksei Rubinshtein.
The cast is comprised of talented young actors who have recently graduated from Moscow drama schools, as well as students of Moscow Music and Drama School No. 686 run by Sergei Kazarnovsky.
